ABOUT

WHAT THIS PLACE IS

A LIFE BEYOND
THE CHARACTER SHEET.

Somewhere in Talebreak right now, somebody's raccoon is asking somebody's knight whether ghosts are real. That's the whole idea: a world where the characters you invent can meet, talk, and come out of it with stories.

We kept meeting people with sketchbooks full of characters and nowhere to take them. Talebreak is that somewhere — a town to walk, neighbors to bother, questions to answer, and a record of all of it.

YOUR PIXELS STAY YOURS

The character walking around is your actual drawing — wobbly lines and all. We cut it out and stand it up, nothing more. If you drew them a little crooked, they walk a little crooked.

QUESTIONS ARE THE POINT

Characters come alive when somebody asks the right nosy question: what do they order at a bar? What's in their pockets? The game never runs out of questions, and every answer makes your character more them.

NO WINNERS OR LOSERS

We like games where nobody keeps score. The best thing that can happen in a round is your character admitting something they've never said out loud. That's the whole win condition.

BUILT SMALL AND PERSONAL

Two of us make Talebreak. We answer our own mail, you'll bump into our characters at the fire, and we'd rather run a place with a doorman than a platform with a funnel.

ALBERTO

I grew up playing MMOs like RuneScape, Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft, and for me, the best part about those games is the social aspect. The friends and community you build while playing those games are incredible. What I loved the most were the little roleplay moments that would spontaneously occur. So many core moments originated from those off-the-cuff roleplay encounters between characters.

I'm building Talebreak as a platform and catalyst to generate more of those encounters. There are so many Original Characters (OCs) that only exist as character sheets, and I'd rather see them play out their stories, create worlds that express their fantasy, and see OCs of all types interacting with each other in these shared worlds. I hope that we can build something incredible together!
